Comments: Hey folks, I've just acquired a 64 convertible (thanks to Ontario Tim). The conv. top boot came with it. However, the boot clips that hold it onto the molding were not installed. The local top shop guy doesn't know and frankly, it looks like they would never work. I can't understand them. The parts distributors don't seem to have written instructions, and are little help on the phone. If anyone has one out there that can be of assistance in helping me understand how they attach, I would be most grateful. Thanks again.

Comments: I need some advise about '64 2 door Chevelle Station Wagons. I have an option to purchase a project car that has good potential, but would like to have opinions on what the relative value might be.

It is a factory air car with full tinted glass intact, and the body is very decent, a few repairable dents, but over all, good. What exterior rust it has is the usual rust around the rear wheel well openings, and easily fixed. The floor boards are gone, but the braces are solid, as is the frame. There is minor surface rust in the side window areas, but there appears to be enough good metal to fix this problem.

The car originaly was a 283/195 hp car with 3-speed on the tree,
and is missing the drivetrain, and hood. The side trim is all there, and very nice-no dents, as are all the window moldings, etc. The factory door panels are "toast", but that is not a major concern, as I would build a "super sport" style wagon. The corect color combo is ember red with a white top, and red bench seat interior. Could be a very nice ride.

How rare is a '64 2 door wagon with factory air, and full tinted glass? The owner is asking $3500.00 as is. A deal??, or not???

(Silver state is what the race is called) I have also have run this car 3 times on highway 305 in Nevada(Pony Express 100 is what this on is called) The car has a 355 chev motor, Super T-10 4 speed, and a 12 bolt rear end with 3.08 gears. This Sept 20 1998 I was able to reach a
top speed off 153 MPH. ESPN 2 cover this race and they interview me. I hope that the car dosen't wind up on the cutting room floor. This should be on sometime in November. My Phone number is area code 925 754 7592 . I don't have a computer at the house. If thier is some other Chevelle owner that would intrest in this kind of racing please contact me.
It would be great if we could ten cars together to run then we would be consider a team . We would be going up against team Viper, Team Corvette, and also Team Panter. in open road racing the term floor it is true!

I am trying to find some original advertisements that are posted on the internet and available to download. I just bought my car a year ago and thought it would be neat to see the original advertisements. Also, if anyone knows of a reliable, trustworthy shop to paint my car and do some minor body work on it, I'd REALLY appreciate the info. I have been looking but haven't found anyone I want to do it yet. :( One more thing... if anyone knows where I can find metal models of my 64 SS, I'd appreciate it! I have the plastic models already. I am preparing to rebuild the front end and have all the parts except for the center link for the steering. Two sizes were apparently used and I am not sure if one can be substituted for the other. Also, does anyone know if the control arm shafts are available. The only ones I can find are some super-alloy parts for almost $200 in the OPGI catalog.
I rebuilt the engine and powerglide and the car is a daily driver.
Does anyone know what the in-line ballast resistor is for that is above the voltage regulator. I have never seen it on another Chevelle and wonder if it is for the power windows.
Any help is appreciated.

Comments: It's a 64 Chevelle Malibu SS built in October of 1964. Close to a basket case, but I've resurrected a little worse. Most notable options: originally had two tone paint, ermine white top and silver blue body, has glass that is dark green like an old coke bottle, had factory dual exhaust, and upper control arms for rear differential have factory adjustable eccentric cam bolts. Powerglide transmission, but wondering if it was a 327 car due to the late in 64 build date and dual exhaust. Rear end gears are 3.08: 1, no posi. Rear end cover is kind of different looking, 10 bolt but has a molded almost lightning bolt shape that goes across the top of the cover about 3 inches down, from left to right. Anyone with info that could help me further pinpoint exactly what this car has or came with originally is welcome to e-mail me. Thanks!

HI all. I'm restoring a 64 ss hardtop from the ground up. I purchased the car a year ago for 1500.00. It is all original and is in need of a complete restoration. It has a 283 (220 horse option) with a glide and 3:08's in the rear. It's azure blue with aqua interior. I have already redone the chasis, new brakes, front end, bushings, shocks, etc. Now I putting my attention on the body that sits in my garage on blocks. New floors, trunk, and I'm cleaning up everything and using por 15 to seal out rust forever(I hope). I'm going to rebuild the motor soon too. I need some new panels for the body. Rust has gotten to some of it. If anyone out there knows of a good hardtop body that I can use for donor panels let me know. I need front and rear window channels, sail panels, rear valence (section below tail lights) and a left rear wheel lip. Please email or call 209 838 6820. Thanks Brian Cole

Comments: I have 3 64 el caminos and a 64 malibu, I am planning to restore one of the el caminos, it is a v-8 factory 4 spd car. the other elcamino is getting a 402 and a turbo 350 to be a work truck. I am putting the malibu on the road with a hilborn injected small block, sportsman 2 heads 12.5:1 compression and a 4 spd. I enjoy driving my el camino so much, I cant wait to get the resto started, I bought the vehicle after it had been in 2 floods river water running over the headlights. I just did a complete rebuild of the engine and trans.

Its currently in the process of a build-up for drag racing, with planned mods including a 450-500 hp. tunnel-rammed 350, turbo 400 with trans brake, 12-bolt posi rear, full roll cage, stock front suspension, and stock rear suspension modified to hook up. Also, planning on using Centerline Warrior wheels with M/T rubber (26.0x4.5x15 front, 29.5x9.5x15 slicks rear). Long term plans call for a back-half job, and blown and injected 502 on alcohol.

Is the Th400 and original xmission or is it an add on, also the owner tells me color is "Mint" as in money mint. Is this a factory original coloror an after the factory color.
Is $3500.00 a decent price for a '64 in good condition.

Thanks,

Comments: My car is a white 1964 El Camino with the factory red interior. I'm running a ZZ3 crate motor and a 350 turbo trans, stock 3.08 gears on an Auburn Pro series limited slip carrier.
I installed an Edelbrock RPM intake and a tuned 750 Carter AFB verses the recommended Holley and stock ZZ3 intake. The shifter is a B&M Quicksilver. The Headers are Hooker Ceramic Super Comps, with 2.5" mandrel bent pipes and Walker Super Dynomax Hemi mufflers.
It rolls on 69-70 SS mags and 245-60-14 T/As.
It runs pretty goodl with a best 1/4 mile of 13.62@107.8 and 0-60@ 5.2 seconds on street tires.
Improvements include: 72 chevelle disc brakes and a quick steer gearbox, KYB Gas-a-just shocks and a 1.25"front sway bar. Also a modern stereo that fits the stock dash.

It has automatic, power steering, power brakes, tilt column, not much else of note, although it is a beautiful car. I own a 65' 2 dr hardtop, listed in the '65 section of this site.
