Comments: I have a 65' el camino it has a 327 with a 4bbl carb. the motor
has cast iron heads, cast iron intake, and a holly 01850 600
vacuum secondary carburator. Tranmission is a muncie 21 w a 256
1st gear oh the engine has headers , the rearend that I have on it now is a 10 bolt that probably came with it. It has a positra
ction unit and unknown gears. I'm the 4th owner and have done some research on it. I know it's an original V8 3spd car w no air
. I like it because it has manual steering, manual brakes, and 4spd. i'm currently trying to locate a 12 bolt rearend for it,
but have gotten outrageous prices on building one any information
would be greatly appreciated. aloha from jason

With M/T racing slicks it really takes off! I`m thinking of rebuilding it back to more or less original condition. Am I out of the league??? Please respond. Hail to ya all.

We found a '68 chevelle in southern Utah that doesn't run yet but we are working on it the most. The '65 has a 283cid and the'68 has a 305cid. My son turned 16 in Oct so we are working on his more than the '65.

I built this car back in 89',in San Diego,Ca.
I sold it at the Pomona Swap meet in 91'.
It had "GMBYWGN" plates then.Looks like the car has been lifted up quite a bit.
It has been in 3 or 4 magazines as well.
I was curious if anyone had any info on where it is now?

I recently purchased a 1964 chevelle that had set in a barn for 25 years and the guy said the El Camino sitting next to it was a big block and had been setting the for the same amount of time.I didn't bother to ask if it was original or not because I was just interested in the 1964 until I found out the low production of the El Camino's b.b. Any information of the number produced would be a help.

I've made the following changes: 396 (with cam, Hi-rise, Holley, MSD, Hooker headers, gear drive), 4 speed Muncie with original linkage, 3" exhaust with 2 chamber Flowmasters, 12 bolt posi with 3.55 gears. All suspension has been rebuilt, lowered, and I installed power steering, front disc brakes, and larger sway bars. I've also installed Cragar super-lite wheels, Autometer tach & guages, and a 69 Chevelle sport steering wheel. I wanted the "Resto Rod" look...like what it would've been like if Chevy built it like this from the factory!

I have been through 2 starters, 2 soleniods, 2 switches, rewired from starter to switch, 1 battery and cable, and 1 alternator. but the car still won't start half the time when i need it to. I have put a heat shield on it because of the headers, but it still does it. The engine compartment does get hot after 2 or 3 minutes of running. Is it still HEAT SOAK or is it electrical? nothing happens when i turn the key. even when the engine is cold.I am putting a flowmaster exhaust kit and it clams engine heat will be reduced. will it help start better? Comments: I own a red on red 64 Malibu SS. I write a monthly article for club magazine of the American Auto Club of Great Britain (about 2500 - 3000 members) and I'm just finishing next months article - this time on 64 and 65 Chevelles. I hope to cover the rest of the family later. Reason for me writing is that I'm a bit short of decent photographs. Does anyone have any pictures that they could scan and send me by EM that I might use? Particularly 64 and 65s are pretty rare over here - I haven't seen another 64 SS at all!! I have sent an EM some time ago asking for permission to use any of the pictues aval on this site as wallpaper but have had no reply. Also, I wonder if someone could help with one other question - what year was the current Malibu introduced, 1997? I just want to mention it in my intro. Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated

I am currently having the small signs of aging :) removed and probably have the car repainted... Nothing on the car has been changed, take a look at my webpage members.tripod.com/Samuel_O/Chevy.html (case sensitive) Were the rearviews placed in front in the States as well?

I have a '65 chevelle malibu w/ 283 engine. I'm new to this car and would like to restore it if possible. It has no rear seat, the rear lights are only working sometimes, but the engine is in good condition. The body is in 'fair' shape with several dents and dings. I have most of the metal side strips. I need to find the flat cable that runs from the fuse box to the rear lighting assy. Mine is suspect, as it has been 'worked' on and spliced.Anyone with knowedge about this car and where to find parts for it, please email me!

Comments: Just bought my 65 MalibuSS. It's bone stock and original except for radiator and the heater core. I thought I could never find a car that was that old and still have the original paint and body in very good condition. The only thing that need to replace in the armrest and driver side seat cushion and maybe the carpet since it shows some fading. What weird about it a gas station service sticker in the door jam has a date 1985 with mileage count of 34000 and the car has 37000 right now. The previous owner said the car was bought in 1990 from a widow since then it was stored in a garage. I guess they just drove around town and didn't go for long trips. I'm pretty sure the mileage is correct because it runs so good and the glass is like brand new even the inside of the ashtray and glovebox looks brand new. I was wondering what is the best way in figuring out the correct mileage. Oh I forgot the muffler was replace around 1989.

Comments: I have a "65"sport cp.I've owned since 1989 it has a #'s 283 2bl.the car was a factory 3-speed but I put in a muncie 4-speed with a new comp/plus hurst when I restored the car in 1994. I bought the car in around 1989 and became the 2nd owner. The 65 was bought from Mr. Doy Richardson of Lead Hill, Ark., who has since passed on. The only way he would sell us the car was if we promised that we would keep it in a garage. I feel very blessed to get a car that was bone stock and in such solid condition. The factory color was gold with fawn int. I did a complete color change to torch red with red two tone int. We decided to remove the upper side molding to go for that z-16 look. I had a set of 8-inch Corvette rallys with the flat centers that I wanted to use on the car. I ran into trouble with inner wheel wells rubbing the vett. wheels in the rear. National parts depot saved the day, they offer a repro. rally 15x8 with a 1/2 inch off set so it clears the inner wheel well without having to trim or cut up your quarters. Their # is 800-368-6451. I also added a sway bar in the rear if you dont have a rear sway bar on your car, it will handle 50% better with one they make a big difference. I added gas shocks and got rid of the air shocks that I had on it for a while I'm sure that helped too. Anyway it's a lot of fun to drive it's plain ol good therapy, and of course I keep it in the garage cause Doy is looking down on it. Happy Motoring, The Moodster.

Comments: I am restoring a 65 Chevelle SS. It used to be called 'dum dum' that sealed the wing window weatherstrip to the door and also sealed the main weatherstrip to the top front of the door. I am in search of a newer product to accomplish this or, to try and locate someone that carries dum dum. It should be black in color. I had some grey but it didn't look right. I tried black seam sealer but it is the wrong consistency and dries too glossy. Can any one help? Any suggestions?

Comments: It's been 6 months since I posted here, so I'll update the progress of my '65 Malibu 2-dr; First off, I found out a whole lot more about my Malibu thanks to this great site. Turns out I rescued a 327/PG car from the wrecker that came with a 12 bolt/3.08 open rear and was a column shift/bench seat car.
In the 6 months I've had it, it's been stripped to the bare frame, which is where I've concentrated my efforts. The frame has been sandblasted and painted, it's now got fast-ratio PS, 2" dropped spindles, new big block coil springs, KYB shocks, 1-1/8"/ 7/8" swaybars and all new poly bushings.Back to the front, every steering component has been replaced. There are frame x-members and control arm reinforcements in the garage waiting their turn to be installed and I'm planning a trip to the wrecking yard for calipers, rotors and a prop valve. Then a trip to the parts store for new seals, bearings, and brake parts and the front end will be back on wheels. Next comes a rebuild for the rear-end including a posi carrier and some 3.73's. Finally, finish off with a rear brake rebuild, plumb the brake and fuel lines along the chassis and I can bolt the body back on with new biscuits. How come no one told me this was so expensive?;)
I'm looking for bucket seats needing new fabric and a 4-spd console...Any suggestions?

Comments: Say Hey Guys!! I bought my '65 Chevelle about six months ago from a dealer who didn't know what he had. I payed about $1800+ my old 144 Volvo. It's a 4d Malibu with a 230 plus 3-speed with overdrive. It was bought by a professor in Finland in 65 and its almost completely original. Only the headlights have been remade and the carpet has been replaced with an original. I took a hit from a rock last month that cracked my granny gear and scratched and dented some other parts :C But I love my car, so I'm hunting for a new overdrive... I'll pay lots if I have to... But I promise it will be up and running before the first Cruising Night in Helsinki... thank God for winter!!

Comments: I purchased a 65 El Camino in original condition but in need of a restoration. It has the original 283 and powerglide. For now I'm replacing them with a 350/350 combo.

I have one problem though, the wires that connect to the positive distributor and starter solenoid are frayed and the terminals are missing. Can anyone tell me how to identify them so I can make the proper connections?

Also, looking for the side body molding for drivers rear quarter...can't seem to locate. Any help or information on this vehicle would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: Hello my name is Cory and I am a true '65 Chevelle lover. I own a 1965 300 Deluxe Chevelle 2 door post. It has a 327/300 motor which was recently rebuilt and it has a turbo 400. I also got into a car accident a few months ago since then I have repainted it. I also have a 1965 El Camino that I am parting out. Along with the El Camino I have a 1965 Chevelle Malibu 4-door that I am also parting out, neither of them have motors or trans. I would also like to know if anyone would have the chrome molding on the side of the car for a 300 deluxe. And WFO to all other chevelle fans.
