Comments: Recently bought a '66 El Camino, 283 with three-on-the-tree. Needs paint and body work (it's an A-body isn't it?). I just finished the interior with parts from Ausley, National Parts Depot, John's Classic Cars, and more than a few E-Bayers'. The engine runs great but then I'm partial to 283's. I think they are the best all-around engine anybody has ever made. I am adding a Rochester 4GC carb and HEI distributor. The paint will be Regal Red, of course. Planning to add rally wheels if I can afford them by that time. Keep up the good work here on this site, it is a big help, even to an old veteran of the "hobby".

It's all original with a Muncie 4 spd. my question is how can I tell what Muncie I have, m-20,m-21, or m-22, and where on the trans do I look to find out? Also, what aftermarket stereos fit good in the 66 radio bezel?

The transmission shifts really hard and needs adjusted or rebuilt or something, I would appreciate any information on the transmission, including where I can find a techmanual for it, how to adjust it, or reccommendations n wher eto get it checked out. Thank you.

Comments: Please remove NOSPAM to reply. I have a 66 Malibu 2 dr HDTP. This was my dream car. I search for 2 and a half years to find the right project at the right price. I found it here on these pages. I had all sorts of lighting troubles. I've gotten to the point where I'm missing reverse lights. It came with a power glide and now has a TH350. Also the neutral saftey switch has been bypassed. I figured one of these was probably the issue and was going to try to hook the wires up to a toggle switch if i got no indication. My main problem is the right blinker/brakelight. All the lighting works except for these. I added 4-ways and that filament now works. So the wire is fine in the ribbon strip. I'd have to assume there is a problem under the dash with the brake switch the blinkers or both or some combination that effects both. maybe these wires end up tied together.
Any help is good,

Sean

I would appreciate an email from anybody who can tell me if this is possible or just a huge project.

I had too much brake pedal travel before the brake pressure took ahold. The problem ended up being stupid. The rubber on the end of the master cylider was waded up somehow, and was keeping the brake booster rod from returning all the way. Again THANKS. Dennis

Comments: Back in the late seventies, my dad bought a 66 chevelle from a used dealership! I remember growing up with this car, and it being the sister i never had (Her name is Shelly)! I loved this car. My favorite part of the day was the morning when mommy took me to school, hearing the engine roar! It was not a stock engine!
I was too young, around 6 or 7, to know info on the car! But dad sold it in the mid eighties! This of course hurt me very much!
I'm starting a witch hunt for this car! I later found out that the engine was bored out and was a big block racing engine! A rear end meant for extremely fast quarter-mile runs! I snooped around in the Douglas Arizona area (My home town where daddy sold the car), and i found out that the previous owner blew the rear end, and later blew the engine on a highway in mexico! To my dismay, that's where the hunt stopped! I will never stop looking for this car! I WILL find her! If anyone knows ANYTHING, please e-mail me and let me know!

Comments: I bought my 66 in 1994 in Texas and ran it for spell until I found myself changing plugs due to bad valve seals. Then a knock from worn crank bearings. So I rebult the 350 totally and haven't had an engine problem since. Being in the service I don't get much time to fix it up the way I'd like, like Germany for 3 years, Bosnia in 95-96 and now, along with many training exercises. But I know now I have to get busy. It's chevy green with Z28 rims that match the color of the car. I want headers even though it sounds like it has already, a real nice throat to it. But I'm having lighting problems due to old wire, of course the leak in the trunk and that slight rust on the bottom rear window. Insides not bad and the paint is a bit faded. But ti's fun to drive, and has been clocked on the highway at 154mph by
by a trooper, I don't know cause the dial only goes to 120mph, but the tach was well past 55000 rpm's. I want to work and get it painted when I get stateside in Apr. and really stay with it. If anyone could help I'd like to know the best headers to get for it that'll fit with the 350. One day I hope to put a 427 in it. Keep up the good job fellows, and good luck in all of your Malibu endeavors.

Comments: I've got a 66 elky sporting a 406 sbc built for torque breathing through Hedman shorties and 50 series delta flow Flowmasters. A Turbo 350 , 3.08 geared 10-bolt, power front disc handle the power. Suspension is lowered front and back using shortened BB springs up front and 3" lowering springs from OPG with air bag assist for heavy loads out back. Poly bushings, quick ratio steering, 1 1/4" front sway bar and stock 7/8" rear keeps it level. BFG radials 275/50 rear and 265/50 front on custom 15" rallys keep everything rolling. But I'm really writing to ask a simple question. The front fender on my 66 has holes only for the V-flag emblems. I'd like to add the displacement emblem above it but don't know the spacing. I'm pretty sure it's centered (left to right) but would like to know the vertical dimension (center- to-center) between the two sets of holes. I suppose I could just eye-ball the location but I see so few examples that have both emblems to give me any confidence. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I am still looking for my 1966 Chevelle Malabu that I bought new in Ubly Michigan. I sold it in 1970 to a man who worked at St. Joseph Hosptial, Flint Michigan. I do not have the VIN number. I called the dealer in Ubly, but He got rid of all the records from 75 back. Does anyone out there know how I could trace this car down without the Vin #? Is it possable to trace it through my old Michigan drivers license # and the address where I was living at the time I bought it with the DMV?
If you can help please e-mail me. I own a fly in fishing camp in Canada and would give a trip to who ever finds this car for me.
Thanks Jim

Comments: Hey guys its me again, well I'll fill you in on what I have done with my 66 SS that I posted about a year ago. First of all I added a 750 Holley double pumper carb because that nasty rat under the hood was dieing for gas and I don't really need to worry too much about gas mileage now since I have a second vehicle (it actually improved it I get 18mpg!!!)and after parking it at Wal-Mart to run some errands, someone decided I needed to fix the passenger side quarter.... again. So I have that all patched up, which after that an ex-girlfriends new boyfriend decided to pour bleach on my roof and turn my cool backyard mix of red orange into pure orange, well I fixed most of it, I have some runs on the PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER that I need to try to wet sand out but I am not too worried, I plan to repaint the car Marina blue, or its original color, black either way I will put ghost flames on the front-end, just as soon as I find someone willing to do it for a good price and not keep my pride and joy for two years before they decide to get to it. Anyway I added some 10 inch subwoofers with a 300 watt amp in the trunk and a 6 disc cd changer under the drivers side (yes I still use a bench seat it came from the factory that way and I think it is cool), I still have the 396/375 engine (not the original one but it is a factory SS and it did originally have a 375 horse engine it was grenaded in a drag race in the 70s) in there and it still is a screamer pulling right now about 420 horses with the light mods that I have done to it, headers are in my plans for the near future. Well I know this makes me sound like I am too full of myself, I am not but I do enjoy the chance to tell about my machine, hey I saved since I was 6 years old for a cool car and I got what I wanted. By the way if anyone needs help with thier car or are looking I love to find old cars just tell me what you want I do not charge any finders fees I just enjoy the hunt so e-mail me with any questions or comments, or if you are in the area drop me a line.

Anyone got any suggestions? This is my daily driver, red with a "camel" colored roof, black interior. The current 350 engine has done the quarter mile at Mission race way in 13 seconds. I Love my car!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanx

2 speed powerglide. The only engine work I've done to it is add a K&N filter, Accel Super Stock coil, Accel 8mm wires w/ u-groove plugs, and Hooker Competition ceramic coated headers. Without the headers and air filter it was running a 17.5 quarter mile time. It still needs some work, but all it takes is time and money!

I have a 66 Malibu Hardtop with an 230 IL6. It doesn't look beautiful, but it runs like a top and gets me to work every day. My only problem is I live in Washington, and it has rust around the windshield, mainly at the bottom, and my poor feet get wet, alot. Anyone else have this problem out there, and am I doomed or is there hope for me? Please let me know of possible solutions that have been used or even other instances of this problem, so I don't feel so alone.

3884505 Parts store told me that it is a valid Holly number but that they cannot help with a kit. Does anyone know where on the web can find a kit?

Comments: My brother has a 1966 malibu convertible. He started the second resto on the car about ten years ago. After he got everything off that he could possibly remove, the car took in residency under a cover in our mother's back yard. During this time, my brother has had everything possible rechromed, had the interior redone, bought all new rubber(everything), wiring, body and suspension bushings, steering, top, brake lines, sway bars, balljoints fuel tank w/sending unit etc, etc, ETC...... With my two finger typing I would be here for several hours listing all of the new parts he has (all still NIB). With the passage of time, and a new family (not to mention that my mother has retired and is moving to Florida, so the car has to go ) can anyone suggest the best place on the internet to sell all of these parts. If anyone here has any information, or is interested, they can e-mail me at sprocket2000@hotmail.com

Comments: July 1999 I took a trip to Santa Maria,CA. to look at a 1966 chevelle ss. The car had a very nice marina blue paint job, new black interior, 325hp big block, 4-speed, 12 bolt posi and eveything else was in need of alot of repair, replace and elbow grease. After looking at this car for 2 1/2 hrs( I was going to drive this car 1100 miles back home to Washington and I wanted to make sure I would make it) I made a offer and left for home. I did experience a few problems along the way such as the center of the water pump pully breaking off and a few wiring problems and then of all things the rear shocks actualy fell off the car(Bad deal: they were mounted using extensions. I did see this upon my inspection and pointed it out to the seller but didn't think this was going to happen!!)and after these repairs were finished I made my way home with no other problems. My wife and I started our restoration pretty much that day. We had enough time before our first show to replace all the trim pieces and polish her the best we could. At the show we couldn't open the hood because it was not really what we wanted everyone to see. The show was great and we went home with more parts and started throwing those at her. We decided to do the interior first changing it from black to bright blue. Did 2 more shows with the hood still closed and actualy recieved awards for best interior at both. The big show(Aces Northwest Regionals) was coming up in a few months and really wanted our car to look good. We went through the rest of the car starting by disassembling everything, removing the body from the frame and digging in and I still can't believe how many parts we went through. In 8 weeks of very long and hard days and nights she was ready. We attended our show and this time we couldn't wait to open our hood. It was really great to talk to so many other chevelle enthusiasts and give them advice on projects that they have going. Our chevelle is as stock as we could get it, Right down to the stickers. She is detailed from top to bottom, In and out. Alot of people told me it was great to see one this detailed and clean. To our joy we received a award for 2nd place 66 chevelle. Our restoration continues as they are really never finished, Are They?

It came with a bench seat soon it will have buckets and a console. It has been stored for a couple of years while I was in college but now I'm done and own a house with a garage so I bringing my car to me to have close by to work on. Comments: I have a '66 SS396 that came with a small block. Since then I have installed a .60 over 396 w/ a .515 lift cam, brand new oval port heads (2.06/1.72 valves w/100.967 cc chamber) comp cams roller tipped rockers(1.72), crane cool nuts, 750 double pumper on a RPM intake.I have two questions; my valves have been loosening, so i bought the polylocks to solve the problem. Now at 2000 RPM my valves tap bad, but mellow out at 2200 RPM. Also I can't get one of them to stop at any RPM. Solution? Question number two; when I put in the big block I used the small block motormounts, now I have a vibration at 75 MPH. DO I need to use the big block mounts? Any help will be appreciated!

The guy I purchased it from in Dec. put a new tranny in and changed the drum brakes over to 4 disc. The odometer does not work, and the speedometer is off also, due to the changes I'm sure. Anyone know the best way for me to resync these back up. Thanks

Mine is this and they really are letter i (eye) and not E or ones. TI022IVRG 113604. This # came from the pad on the right front side of the block. What do I have?

Which I bought instantly. I've re-built the engine, original 283. I'm in the process of re-building the suspension. If you have any excess parts for a 66 El Camino, I would appreciate any contact. I have an extra SS 1967 Chevelle hood with scoops for sale. And other misc. parts. You can contact me at the above listed e-mail address.

I would like to find out where to get production figures and, if possible, about how many(this was the first production year for
4dr hardtops)are still around.I will appreciate all responses.
