One interesting thing is the filler panel under the trunck is silver/grey rather than the black that american Chevelle SS cars had. Love to hear from some other canadian car owners.

Comments: About a year ago my dad purchased a 1966 chevelle malibu for us to restore for $1,700. It has a 350 and 350 turbo transmission. It originally had a 327 so because it does not have its original engine we really arent trying to keep it original. My dad does paint and body work, so far we have stripped the whole car down and painted the frame white and all of the suspension parts are blue and yellew. I am hopeing to have it done by July, when I get my lisense.

Comments: I purchased a 1966 Chevelle Malibu 283 in 1988. I am the third owner, and when I bought the car, there was some rot around the front and rear cowls. I had the rust cut out and replaced and a new windshield inserted, but it continued to leak. I was told this was because the windshield installer did not use the proper kit. Then I had another windshield installed with the proper kit and it did not leak, but the moldings could not be applied because the clips didn't fit correctly. So the windshield was replaced for a third time, but now it leaks and the moldings don't fit. I am looking for someone in the Bellingham Mass area who specializes in this area and will guarantee their work. The car is in very good shape and I would like to drive it again!

Comments: I have a 1966 chevelle i bought the car used.. i am not quite sure what condition the motor is in.. all i know is, i did a compression check on it.. and it was hitting about 60 all around.. possibly 80 i cant quite remember. I changed the 2 bbl intake and carb to a 4bbl quadrajet and even since then i cant even peel out in my car.. it does not have the power that is used to.. I have adjusted the gas mix and the timing.. etc.. Someone told me that a 650 carb is over carbin it.. just a little.. but still.. i wanna just go throught the engine and rebuild it.. to where if i wanna give it some gas i can and it will jump on it..
a Mild high proformance engine.. But being new to this i dont know what/where kit to get.. what cam? dur. lift? pistions? rings? bearings? etc.. i am going to take a class at a local JC to learn how to do it myself.. but i just dont know where to start.. ANY help will be great.. thanks..

I am just a newbie in this area.. hehe..

Comments: I have a mint 66 SS chevelle. I'm the third owener. The moter has a stock bottom end. The crank is forged from the factory, 3/8 s rod, with stock pistons. There is a mild aftermarket hyd. cam in the motor, I don't know the specs. Headers, stealth aluminum intake and holley 800 double pumper, Hot HEI ignition. TCI 10" 3500 stall converter, with a pro built bulletproof turbo 350. 12 bolt 4:11 posi rearend. Front and rear suspension all set up and ready to lunch. This is a street car, but I would like to race it on the weekends. I'm looking to put the car into the mid 12:00s.I need help in two areas. 1) I have been told that in the early 396 motors, 325 hp motors, GM put forged pistons in these motors up to 1967. can anyone out there confirm this as fact? 2) I would like to put in a bigger cam, I don't want to mess with piston to valve clearance problems. Has anyone put cams in this motor, and what is the max. lift I can use with a duration of.250 at .50. or can anyone recomend a cam that will put me in the mid 12:00s with the equipment that is already in my motor. I have a red line of 6000 rpm. Help me out here, please

The engine has stock pistons, rods and crank.I have headers and HEI ignition. 10" TCI 3500 stall converter and a bulletproof built turbo 350. Rearend is a 12 bolt 4:11 posi. Back to the motor, I have stock oval port heads, closed chamber. I am asking to thing here: 1) This is a 1966 moter. I am told that is 66 GM used forged pistions in the 325 hp motors. does anyone know if this is true. 2) I would like to put a hotter cam in this motor. Does anyone Know how much lift I can install in this motor and not have piston to valve clearance problems. I know that the more duration the cam has lift will not be able to be as high, so lets look at lift limits for a cam with a max. duration @.50 of 250.I looking at a cam with .587 lift amd .241 duation @ .50. Will this cam fit in my motor without any problems and if not is there a cam that has worked for someone else in there similer motor that will work for me. I want a street/strip cam> I would like to race the car on weekends and I'm looking for E.T.s in the 12:00s (Please Help)

The car is painted Lemonwood Yellow and the body is rust free. I am going to do a ground up restoration this spring ! It has a 4 speed and bench seat , the engine is a 325 hp. I love the car and it was worth the ride , 995 miles from my home in Connecticut to get it. I trailered it home this past labor day weekend. The owner had the car for 33 years, he bought it when he was 20 yrs old. At the time he was making only $1.00 an hour and his payments were $92.oo a month......Boy, times have changed! I am going to keep this car and pass it on to the next generation when I'm gone......

My dad has a 67' el camino with a 66' front-end on it. He has completely stripped the car, and is a drag car only. It is powered by a 460 horse 406 ci small block. This candy-apple red el-camino runs 12.50's in the quarter mile.

I just got a 66' el camino and am looking for another complete dash for it. I want to put a custom dash in it, with a full set of autometer ultra-light gauges. Also, I would like to build a console of some kind. If you have any ideas or information that could help me, e-mail me.

My wife and I have already started our restoration and have replaced all the bright work(Wow, What a improvment)but still need bumpers. We really wanted a bright blue interior but could not find a car worth buying with this color inside, So were replacing the interior to bright blue ourselves. If anyone has a gauge package for sale(temp, oil, volt, gas and knee knocker tach)please e-mail me. Future plans call for a complete suspension overhaul(hotchkiss, poly bushings, springs, ect.), Rebuild rear diff(373's), Rebuild tran's(m-21), detail original engine(also install my corvette tri power intake and carbs)and later put together my 468 alcohol/nos BB just for some excitment. What a awsome car. Sold my 68 ss to get this and have no regrets whatsoever!! Happy Cruising and remember; "THERE'S NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT"

It's a 1966 SS396 bored to a 408 ci with True roller, total seal rings, Lunati cam, 11 to 1 TRW forged aluminum pistons, 427 steel crank, bronze valve guides, 750 holley double pumper, 400 turbo trans. w/shift kit, 2500 stall converter, 4.11 posi., with Ron francis wiring. I do not know alot about Chevelles. When I drive this car at about 60 to 65 mph it runs at about 3000 rpms. I would like to drive this car to meets or shows but I do not want to blow it up. Please give any advice to whether a 3.55 or 3.42 rear end or even a 700R4 would be acceptable.

Comments: I have a 66' ss chevelle malibu convertible, with a 360 HP 396. (one of under 50 left still on the road) there were only 150 built with the convertible 360 hp option so it is extremely rare. A show winner, this car has a "liquid glass" polished finish with over 200 coats on top of a 1972 buick regal red paint. A brand new robbins top this past summer really accents the original leather interior with no rips! The 4spd hurst shifter and after market knee knocker tach
control this car's 4:10 rear end. Stainless steel twin pipes keep the car to a modest rumble. However, it has been known to show a high 11, low 12 on the quarter.

When you lift the hood, bright orange block paint is dulled underneath the shine from all of the original engine chrome. If you are really a car guy you will also notice the that the firewall is painted every winter. This engine is spotless...Maybe because this engine HAS ONLY TURNED 7000 MILES. no sir, that is not a misprint.

It has not seen water in 14 years, and has only been washed 3 times in 6. It does not need to be washed because it is kept in a dust-free environment.

This car was supposed to be a family heirloom, however, things just didn't work out, so, it is for sale.

This show winner with all matching numbers, had a great past, a great present and will have a great future to whoever is serious enough to own this head-turner.

talk to me,

mike

Need tips on drilling and breaking spot welds, 2-piece or 3 piece trunk floors, which manufacturer(s) has the best available trunk floors? I don't want to reinvent the wheel! There is no clicking sound so I know that it is not the stater. The battery has plenty of juice. So I tried putting a new ignition switch in and it still wont start. I checked to see if any power was going through the wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid and tthere was no power . I can bypass the switch by placing a wire from the battery to the ignition switch /solenoid wire and turning the key. ai know that this is not smart. The engine will never cut off, but wont turn over sometimes. It does not matter if the engine is cold or hot. Sometimes it will go days without a problem. What Could Be wrong. The productions company will rent for between$100-$600 US a day depending on the car and condition. One of the cars need to be some what run down and be willing to sell for between $1000-$4000US for a car chase seen which ends in collision. The series has a very high budget and will star Johnny Depp, Robert DeNiro, Nicole Kidman, and Scott Larson.

Comments: I am trying to locate a car from my past. My mother bought a 66 malibu from a dealership in Bethlehem, PA around 1968, it was a green metalic color (probably code 3J?) and had a straight six powerglide. My parents sold this car (for around $500) in 1982 to two young fellows who came to pick up the car in another 66 or 67 chevelle. We were living in the Quakertown area at the time. The only distinguishing features I can remember were the fact that my father blacked out the area between the tail lights to look more like an SS, the car had normal daily driver dings and scratches but no serious damage, the heater blower switch was relocated, and the car was still driven when sold.
I am curently restoring my own 67 Chevhelle and would love to know what happened to the car that got me hooked.

Comments: I have a 1966 Chevelle Maiibu convertible that is in great shape. The drive train is not orginal and is causing me some concern. The engine is a 1975 350 truck engine. I know that from tracking the engine codes. What I haven't been able to track down is the type and specs for my transmission and rear end. The only numbers I can find on the differential are the following:

3894938N
GM10
J88 or J66

and actually these nubers were on the axel tube drivers side.

The tranmission is a four speed with a patent number of 8088336 and other numbers such as PO 722, and 3851325.

My guess is the transmission is a Muncie but I am not sure.

Can any one help me out? I know the transmission and the rear end are out of sync because the engine really labors at higher speeds (60mph and above). Any help would be appreciated!!!

Comments: I recently picked up a 66 Chevelle, it has a 396 with a 4.11 rear-end, holley 750 and some other minor motor work. I'm happy with the purchase and I am slowly restoring her. However, one of the latter bars (I think they are Lakewood) is broken. The front end of the latter bar, where it bolts to the frame, is missing the bolt and bushing. I was wondering where I could find this part. Does Lakewood have a website, or a 1-800 number? I'm having trouble finding info. on this part, so any info. would be useful! Thanks!

Comments: I have a mutiplex stereo for my Chevelle. What I would like to know is what do the original speaker grills look like? Does any one know where I might aquire a set? The unit that I have came from my fathers 66 that was retired back in 1977. Before he got rid of the car he pulled some of the parts that he wanted to keep. Most of them were sold off but upon cleaning out the garage I stumbled across it and laid claim to it. This was several years before I bought mine. My chevelle is just a Malibu but I have installed a 396 and an M21 4spd with the original 12 bolt that came in the car. Rather than hacking up an original SS I chose to build a Malibu with SS trim. Finished it will be Regal red with a white interior like the one my father had. I hope that some one will be able to help me with the correct speaker grills. One more thing, does anyone know the stock location for the speakers to be mounted? I know that the multiplex system was dealer installed so if anyone has access to the original instructions that would be abig help. Thanks Mike

Comments: I have a 66 SS Chevelle that I have owned since 1979. I bought the car off the original owner. I have a few questions and I hope someone can help me.One thing is my car is body color between the tale lights not black. The car is 95% original paint. Second my head liner is different. It doesn't have the large panels in the back, but small ones buy the rear window. Third my car has 360horse 4 bolt mains altought I never had the oilpan off it has the plugs above the oilfilter for the exteral oil cooler. The car has a Sept 65 build date. I also have a 66 Chevelle conv. Its a 283 powerglide car. There are no emblems on the front fenders. As far as I can tell they are the original fenders, not replacements. I have seen this in the past on a 66 Malibu I owned as a kid it didn't have the malibu's on the rear 1\4's. It was a two door hardtop. Dave

Comments: My 66 Malibu was a stock 327/4-speed w/ buckets when i boutght it for the $3500 I got when some f***er rear-ended my bone stock 65 Malibu 283/glide.

Now, I built the 327 w/ 10.75 KB Silv-o-lites, a custom grind D. Elgin racing roller cam w/ 1.6 scorpion roller rockers (in spiffy Red Alum.!), Running a Eddelbrok Performer RPM w/ either an Eddelbrock 650 or a Holly 650 (depending on the others disposition). I found a wrecked Firebird and stole the BW T-5 tranny, with my 3.31s ive done 130mph (I-5) for some extended periods w/ minimal vibration! I rebushinged the suspension w/ Perfomance Suspension polys, and am running 1 1/2" lowered springs in the back and 1" lowered in the front. KYB shocks all around and some fat swaybars, not to mention some pricy, but damn nice Goodyear Eagle IIs (after driving on these, i will NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER drive BFGs, nor will I suggest anyone else!)

Now I am finally attacking the body. much rot in the normal places, but I caught it in time. She will be roadworthy again shortly. But, not before I Re-ring and and bearing the engine. Be careful with roller cams. Get the right valve springs, otherwise the engine resonance will actually shatter some springs (you need a good triple spring). Now I have some definately scary oil pressure problems because of metal in the pan. Better to fix now, than to cry later, I guess.
