Comments: I recently have purchased a true 1967 Chevelle SS 396.
As I am new to Chevelle's I have a question on the proper paint required on the fire wall( I believe it should be black.)
The inner fenders in the engine compartment should be_______?
The rad craddle and fender brace structure should be _______?
The car has a 20 yr old restoration on it and when they did it everything was painted Butternut Yellow. When you stand in front of the car you see all yellow except for the rad itself behind the grill. Can anyone help with this soon as I would like to detail it a better before I take it on some cruises. Thanks- Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 22:07:37 (PDT)

Comments: I have a 69 390 H.P. 427 in a '67 Chevelle SS 4 speed. I am having big time oil pressure P.S.I. fluctuations (hemoraging?).I first noticed it when I got about half way down the block from home where I immediately shut the car off, but there was not the gallon of oil on the street or driveway that I expected to see! I immediately changed the oil but not the filter On startup it goes right to 60 lbs. where I let it idle at 1000 RPM for about 20 to 30 seconds where it normally stabilizes but seconds later the needle goes to zero and will not go back up at all until I drop the RPMs back to 750 or so then it will go past 20 all the way to 60 lbs depending on engine RPM, when the revs drop below 1500 it will sometimes drop to zero again. I also bled the line leading to the oil guage thinking that something was plugging that. I am thinking about filling the crankcase with ATF and cranking the engine with the plugs out to flush it .This engine has a fairly recent rebuild and ran great until this happened I suppose that I will have to get the crank and connecting rods checked in any event. Any suggestions?- Monday, July 16, 2001 at 16:15:18 (PDT)

Comments: I just got a 1967 el camino, this car seems to have some very rare options for a non SS car. I,ll tell you about it and you can tell me if i did good. the car has a 327 and powerglide trans, the body seems good with no rust and very little bondo, now here are the options factory buckets, console , gauge package with blinker tach (everything work except the tach) tilt column, power steering, brakes ,factor air, the car is complete but needs paint some interior work and a rear bumper (its there but not in good shape. I gave 1600.00 for the car and drove it home, it runs smooth down the road. the one question i have does anyone know where i can get the tach repaired? if so e-mail me please. thanks- Sunday, July 15, 2001 at 13:13:06 (PDT)

Comments: On my 67 SS 396 with a/c the stock style fan and fan clutch seem to be to close to the 4 core radiator. With everything in place I can't even slip a fan belt between the fan clutch and radiator core. I have tried to get a shorter fan clutch but it seems like I have the shortest one that my parts house carries. There is about a quarter inch of clearance and I have already ate the radiator core and don't want to do it again. Is this how close these fit? Comments: Well I wrote some time ago and stated that I was doing a full power train change on a bone stock Malibu, and it is now complete.
The car is now running the 450HP LS6, Turbo 400, 12 Bolt with 4:10 gears on a eaton possi. I have Doug Thorley headers that I had ceramic coated 3" pipe into two delta force flowmasters and out in the stock SS location in 2 1/2". I did a total rebuild of the front end to include 11" disc brakes.
I have done so much to the car in the past two months that I could go on for a while, but I won't........
If anyone is thinking of doing a bigblock transplant drop me a line I will try to help.- Tuesday, July 03, 2001 at 23:07:25 (PDT)

Comments: Were should I start, I had a really nice 4dr. slamed w/ a 383 4brl, 400 turbo trany w/ a hell of a shift kit, spooled 10 bolt rearend, on drag stars. But a drunk drive ended that love affair.
then I bought the same type a 300 deluxe that needed some work so while I attended A.A.I., I tryed to switch them over Ionly got so far before I graduated so I took the car to a friends house for about 2yrs. I bought a 2dr. 66 malibu whitch I had stolen from me two mouths later. so then I bought another 67 4dr. from this nice old lady's daughter w/ a 283/power glide
and some ugly rims, Idrove that for about 1yr. then moved back to cali. taking al three chevelles one inside the u-haul one behind the u-haul and I drove the other. Once I was settled in I started to fix up the one that had no engine and put the 383 out of the first 4dr and begun drag racind it. I was running high 13s in a four door just sneaking up on people. I sold all my 4dr cars and recked one took the insurence money and bought what I really wanted a two door hard top. It's not finished but it has four wheel disc breaks,12bolt rear w/ posi4:11gears,Hotchis 1inch lowering springs frt/rear 383/700r-4 modified, demon carb, koni rear drag shocks, fuel cell rear mounted dual batteries
with remote sut off. thats about it the only thing done is the chassis. The body and inside is next. If anyone has any ? on thing pertaining to chevelles/malibu plaese ask and I hope I can help! most of the men in my family owns or have owned a chevelle/malibu!

Comments: I have a blue '67 Chevelle Malibu and I need some help with the engine. I rebuilt it and it has an Edlebroke intake manifold and forged pistons. Also a steel crank and I want to make sure I have a carb that will go with these parts. Now right now I have a 3 speed turbo transmission but I want to switch to a 2 speed. Now I need to know what kind of carb I should be looking at. I bought a 750 holley carb but a friend of mine says that a 750 is too much and will "over carb" the engine. Any suggestions? What have you tried that has been sucessful? And does anyone know a transmission that would work well? Better then the 2 speed I want to get?

Comments: I've recently purchased a 67 Chevelle SS, at least thats what I think it is. The VIN plate on the fire wall is missing and the Vin on the inside of the drivers door just tells me that it is a 67 Chevelle, 2d with either a 283 or 396 and that it was assembled in the U.S.. The car has all the markings of a SS, it has the mounting hardware for the center console (could you get a Chevelle in 67 with a center console if it wasn't a SS?), a 12 bolt rear end, a SS steering wheel and dash. It also still has its original color, which is Butternut Yellow, and when I removed the 396 emblems on the fenders the color was the same and there wasn't any sign of holes that had been filled where other emblems had been removed. If anyone knows of the location of any other VIN plates that will help verify this car as a SS I would really appreciate them letting me know. Thanks.- Thursday, April 26, 2001 at 10:21:59 (PDT)

Thanks.- Thursday, April 26, 2001 at 09:45:58 (PDT)

Comments: It's a 67 Malibu 2dr hardtop painted 74 Corvette bright blue. Like every other chevelle, it has the corvette rallye wheels. I did the body about 5 years ago and it's still minty. I did the bodywork myself but a friend painted it. Another friend and I rebuilt the engine about 3 yrs ago. It's a 350 with camelhump heads, 462 casting. The heads have minor porting done in the bowls and the runners were cleaned up a bit. A Holley 650 dbl pumper sits on top of a slightly ported Edelbrock Torker 2 intake. The cam has .495" of lift with 292 degrees advertised duration. The bottom end is a bone stock 4 bolt main 1985 truck block with a cast crank, and dished pistons that I think are supposed to be 8.0:1 compression. The exhaust is a pair of hooker headers with 2 1/2 inch pipes and dynomax super turbo mufflers. With a th350, a 2800 stall torque converter and 4.56:1 gears, on BFG radial T/A's, 275/60-15's. It went 13.70@ 99mph through the exhaust and on the street tires. Not bad considering that the 2000 camaro ss in the other lane went 14.00 @ 101mph. I drive the car every day from May1 to Nov1. It gets 14mpg in the city and 22mpg on the highway revving 3900rpm at 65mph.- Friday, April 13, 2001 at 11:12:15 (PDT)

One has a sleve on it for the bearing and retainer that has slid on the ax. Tha other is the corect one, I presumed, as no sleve is present. The axles are held in place by a plate that bolts onto the axle tubes. Trying to get a replacement axle, through my local Chevy dealer, resulted in a axle that was made to be retained by C-clips. 396 big block. I've run mine past 5000(not by much) with no sign of floatage! I just wanna know if 5 is too much, or more specifically, what was the Red line in the SS models?
E-Mail me PLEASE!! I don't wanna blow up this beauty!

Comments: I have a 1967 Chevelle Malibu 2 Door Coupe. I'm the second owner, my Dad was a saleman for the local Chevrolet dealership back in the 60's and sold this car to a friend, it went through his three daughters and when he brought it back to trade in on a new Monte Carlo in 1975, the dealership would only give him $500.00. I was 17 and was looking for a car, so I offered him $700.00 for the car, he accepted and I've had it ever since.
I'm trying to install the trunk tension bars, but I do not know how to install them. Can anybody help me with a diagram or photo? Thank You.

Comments: Check this out !
My brothers and I purchased a 1967 Super Sport Conv 427 12 years
ago. Frame and running gear all powder coated to correct specs. Body is going in this weekend. Stock Mountain Green with black interior. Over the 12 years, we have located all available options as well as power options. Matching number motor. Appearance will be stock except for the 2 inch front drop spindles and 1 inch drop in the rear. All new glass with the 4-speed Muncie, and front disc brake option. Everything on this car is new. Now for an added twist............we are keeping the number matching 427 and installing an original all aluminum ZL-1
big block that came in the original crate back in 69 addressed to Yenko himself ! This car will be one of a kind ! A true legend. Strato buckets w/headrests, power top, tach, speed warning indicator, power seats, A/C, tinted glass. Will we use the ZL-1 monster to it's full potential ? No. But we are going to drive it. This car was found in a walnut orchard withering away. Soon it will be back on the road for all to appreciate.

The engine now has 0.030 TRW forged pistons, Edelbrock Performer intake, Performer cam and a Holley 650 double pumper. I intend to replace the Powerglide with a Muncie 4 speed close ratio. I already bought, from a gentleman of California, the 67 4 speed console. The front suspension is brand new PST. I´m not happy with the power steering. It´s over assisted, good for parking but not very good to drive at high speeds. No road feel. I´ll check out if there´s a progressive power box for the Chevelle.- Monday, July 10, 2000 at 07:59:05 (PDT)

Comments: I just bought a 67 300 series 2dr sedan. It has a 230 straight six with a powerglide trans. The body has minimal rust, behind the front wheels, and also behind the rear wheels as well. These are very fixable. This car is very straight. The frame is very solid, but all 4 floor boards are practically gone. The trunk floor will also need replacing, though not too bad. All of the numbers match on this car. I even have the original owners's manual and the owner protection plan with the Protect-O-Plate. For a car with matching numbers and as solid as it is, was $2600 too much to give for the car? This is my first chevelle, but have dreamed of them for a long time. I plan to build it up as a performance non-SS chevelle. I will keep all original parts removed for the car. I would love to hear your comments. Thanks, Nathan- Sunday, July 09, 2000 at 22:05:55 (PDT)

Comments: Can anyone please give me the dimensional specs for the Dealer installed pin stripes for a 67 SS. I know where they go, that there are two of them, one thick on the bottom, a gap and a thinner one above that. I also know that the total height of the two stripes including the gap does not exceed one inch however I need the exact thickness of each of the stripes and the exact gap thickness between them. I recently purchased a pre-fab set and these puppies total two inches. I know that this is not correct. I had several 67 SS's in the early 70's that had original paint and stripes that definately were not that fat.

Comments: I have a 67 malibu convertible which has no A/C. I've purchased a 67 chevelle complete factory A/C unit to install, but am running into some problems adapting it to fit. Questions:1)Does the firewall need to be cut open for the evaporator case & will the case fit into cavity behind the firewall/hinge pillar? 2)Does heater core case need to be fitted or adapted to evaporator? (Case sits higher than existing opening)3)In the middle of firewall should there be a cutout to adapt a vent housing? 4) Am I crazy to even try something like this? It gets awfully hot down here in the summer...it'd be nice to have A/C. Can this job be done?
Thanks for any/all input on this matter!!

Question for you sharpies - There is a vacuum port (long tube) directly under the choke lever, and another directly above the driver's side idle mixture screw. Which goes the vacuum modulator, which goes to the distributor?
Thanks for any information.
