I'm trying to put some classic "black and yellow" plates on it I bought a few weeks ago, they are "clear" plates, the problem is with the DMV ,they dont want to do the transaction.they have a book that says can only put the black plates on 62' and older cars, but couldnt give me an explanation why? any body out there know how to get around this DMV hangup?
any help is greatly appreciated.

Email: <montecarlo71@hotmail.com>
Location: Ft. Pierce, FL.,
Comments: I just purchased a 71 monte carlo (very closely related to chevelle) ,its got a great body, very minor rust and no dings. The interior is ok but not great. I have redone every inch of the engine, just have the interrior left.I am stuck on the door panels, they are ok butIneed to replace the window hardware. How can i get the door panel off without destroying it? The body is 1 out of 76 they made with rear fender skirts, and Idont mean just monte carols,I mean all of chevrolet in 1971. It also has the seatbelts that are attached to the headliner, which is 1 out of 72 monte carlos in 1971. So she is pretty rare, and she is my first car so i want to take care of her. She has a 350 sb so she is quick but nothing for the drag strip she is for looking at, easy on the eyes. Not so bad for 2 grand or only being 17 years old. So if anyone in cyber space can help or just wants to talk to another car guy e-mail me at the above address

Cyber Cornhusker@aol.com and I will give you all the details on the car. Please put 68 Elcamino in the subject line of your e-mail so that I don't delete it thinking that it is junk e-mail, thanks.

Comments: In the mid-eighties, I had a Malibu that friends labeled the "Mad Max" car. It was dechromed, had oxidized midnight blue paint, and rallies painted flat black. The 350 block was bored out, balanced, and blueprinted with a host of other goodies. A TH400 replaced the 2-speed powerglide. Discs, spindles, booster, sway bars, etc. took care of the stopping and handling. The car was great for bombing around the freeways in L.A., in spite of the suspicion it aroused in the police. Later, I cheerfully received my father's formerly pristine, then wrecked SS396. My Malibu became a donor car. I've kept the 396 close to stock, only boring it out twice to 060. over. I put a shift kit and converter in the TH400, 3.42 posi, with Strange ring and pinion, and axles. Next, I'm looking at either a Hotchkis or Global West suspension makeover. To finish, the car will receive body work and paint. I can't wait to hit the freeways again in my up-to-date Super Sport.

I think I over looked some flaws that should have lowered the price. I paid 6G for a 177,000 mile car with straight good looking body with an acceptable dark metallic charcol paint. the car has an early big block because it has the old style oil filter mount so I know its a 65 or 66 block. It also has 4 piston disc brake calipers and vette style rotors. has anybody ever heard of this? Im currently rebuilding the front
susp. What a job this has turned out to be. If I had it to do over I would have paid somebody else to do it. Since I have it apart I just keep finding more stuff I want to replace.
sorry bfor the length but I ramble on in person too.

I mean why buy a cherry and have nothing to do but sit around telling people about all the wonderful things the previous owner did to the car. I am having the time of my life with the car. This hobby is everything I thought it would be and more. MOST of the people in the muscle car invironment have proven to be wonderful people as well.
I am submitting this post for several reasons:

To get to know more people first and formost.

I also would like to find a good paint shop in the Bay Area...that is reasonable.

I need help getting my dash off.

And I am looking to purchase a few items:
Wheels and tires
side view mirrors
rear view mirror
the inside portion of the glove box

I am anxious to recieve your emails.

Sorry this was so long.

Comments: I had dreamed of owning a Chevelle since I was old enough to play with matchbox cars. Two summers ago I became the owner of a 2 owner 1968 Malibu. The 230 L6 had 58k original miles on it, the interior was immaculate & like new since I got it, but being an Illinois car the body was a little rotted. i have all necessary body parts(fenders, door, quarters, SS hood), it's just a matter of putting them on after I finish cleaning & POR15ing/top rubbercoating the frame.
The 'Velle is already sporting new custom lowered front springs/raised rear from Joliet Spring Align, front disc conversion from Stainless Steel Brakes, performance front end kit from Performance Suspension Technology, new Cragar SS rims with new BF Goodrich Radial T/A P245/50R14 front & new Firestone SuperSports L60-15 meats on the rear (requiring Air Shocks for added clearance!) from last Spring's Midwest Classic Show/Swap in Madison, WI.
Future Mod's in progress: TPI engine/manual trans (and possibly the rear discs) swap from recently acquired 89 Trans Am GTA, Quarters welded on, POR15ing then rubber coating the frame from the firewall back, swap in the 500 Watt amp/10inch speaker combo I have laying around, Primer & Repaint gunmetal blue. Planned completion summer/fall 2000.
Any comments/suggestions welcome! Anyone else swapped in a complete TPI engine (not just the induction system)? Anyone have the issue of CAR CRAFT magazine which swapped the TPI engine into the Chevelle/Camaro(I'm not sure which they did)?

Comments: I recently bought a '68 SS 396 Chevelle in good shape. I also have a '72 Chevelle with a 307 c.i. engine, TH350 tranny with 2500 stall converter. The '72 has seen it's better days as far as the body and interior. I just installed a Wiend Stealth intake with a Carter 600 cfm carb on it. I still have the 2 bbl carb if anyone is looking for the factory carb for their car.

Comments: Anybody interested in buying '68 Chevelle, six cylinder? Original owner, little old lady, recently damaged front end and has turned in her license. Damage is not too bad, and it can surely benefit someone who is resoring a car and needs original parts. It has about 45k original miles. Any assistance on valuation of this car, interested buyers or any assistance on locating interested buyers would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: Last summer my father-in law bequeathed my wife and I his Sequoia Green SS-396 Convertible with the Vin # 138678K123408. He is the original owner. From the bill of sale it has a 325HP engine, Air condintioning, a T. Hydramatic, Pwr. stg, an AM/FM Radio, Pwr. disk brakes, an Auto. Top, and a Posi. It also has 230,000 miles on the odomter. Not all of the parts are original but the body, block, and heads match. The rear does not match. I am having the SS rebuilt as a driver by going to more powerful brakes, adjusting for modern fuel, controlling the suspension with contemporary tecnology, ect. However, I am not going to sacrifice the correct apprearance whenever possible. I expect to finnish this rebuild two or three years. My experience with the community of Chevelle fanatics has been extremely positive. Godspeed to you all.

Comments: Greetings to all Chevelle owners. I'm the second owner of a 2 door Chevelle with vinyl top. Used to be a grandma car, so the grandson told me when I bought it for $2.500.

In very good condition, excellent interior and spinner hubs. In need of a paint job, and if any one knows of a good place to purchase paint in the Chicagoland area, please let me know, as I plan to squirt it in my self this summer. Sandblasting undercarrage and associated areas. No major rust or eaten out floorboards/trunk.

Decent audio now, came with the original am radio in dash and original spare and jack.

I plan to restify, but not supercharge, as it's my daily driver. With the original strong 307 and mildly aggresive powerglide, it's good enough to flex 1960's muscles against modern rolling plastic. I have installed a MSD spark enhancer, which does assist in additional hotter spark.

Thumbs up from admirers, but unfortunatly, mostly from men. My girlfriend does not understand the attraction it has, I must educate her.

Just pushed 80.000 original miles, and doesn't show it. It will go another 80.000+ with no problem.

To the brotherhood of all Chevelle owners everywhere, a friendly wave and goodbye.

Joe

When I turned 17 this year my dad gave it to me, but my mom really didn't want me to have all this power, but I proved worthy enough to have it, now we are buiding up a 400 SB stroker that will have close to 700 horsepower.
