Comments: My sister and I are restoring her trusty old college car, "Neut", (because of the "puke" frost green color) a matching numbers '69 Malibu Sport Coupe with the 350/350 combination. We have all the documentation right down to the original build sheet, Protect-O-Plate and sales slips from Don Crow Chevrolet in Lubbock Texas (Anyone know if they are still in business?). The suspension, steering and brakes have been completly rebuilt fore and aft including new springs. It rides like new and the body is still very straight but weathered with just little cancer. The original 350 block was rebuilt .030 over and warmed up with a '65 327/350 horse bumpstick just for grins and giggles. I'm also tossing on an original Winters casting aluminum intake from '67 SS Nova and a Chevrolet part numbered Holley from a '71 LT-1 Vette; spare parts from the last 25 years of being a Motorhead. For the life of me I can't seem to find a FAN SHROUD for this puppy which also has Factory Air. Resto companies out there seem to re-pop everything but this particular piece. I can get small block shrouds for cars w/o Air all day long , but none for cars with AC. Can anybody help with a parts source or a clean original for sale?
Thanks! Joe Kosty, Albuquerque, N.M.

Comments: I've got a 69 SS396 convertible with the 350hp motor. Right now everything is pretty much stock, but it feels like it is missing some power. I was considering adding some things like headers, a new carb, edelbrock intake, but I don't know what will work. Also when I did a compression check I found that I have a very low compression motor(about 90-95)but it is the same in all 8 cylinders. I think I also need a new limitied slip carrier. Does anyone have any suggestion on some bolt on performance modifications I could add to my Chevelle. I'm trying to keep it looking pretty much stock. It has a 650cfm rochester carb on it now, and it has a very soggy low end. Would it be better to get a Holley 650cfm or move up to an original 3310 style 790cfm carb. Also does anyone know of anyone in my area that specializes in chevelles or big block chevys?

Comments: 350/300, Turbo 350, 12 bolt. Complete frame up resto. Suspension, all lines, brakes, transmission and engine new or rebuilt. All floors, quarters and rocker panels new! Next phase will be the exhaust system (I'd like to put on a chambered system), cooling system and fuel tank. After this phase the car will be painted. This is NOT an SS but with the 350/300, will just about keep up with most of them except the 396/375! With luck (and after the divorce is settled) I hope the have the car finished within 2 years.

The interior has been replaced with Malibu buckets and other Malibu pieces over the years. It has a 396, Muncie M20, and 3.31 Posi now, with headers, Hurst shifter, and 375 hp cam & lifters. The remainder of the car is original appearing. It is a continueing project and is costantly being improved. Only a few cosmetic items remain. The future calls for more HP and a 3.73 rear. Comments: I am in the process of helping a friend of mine buy all correct parts for his 1969 Chevelle SS. This car was bought out of a bone yard and had no motor or transmission in it, as well as no interior. Because of this we have no build sheet as there was not one above the gas tank. From the trim tag(cowl tag) we have determined that this car was black on black with the optioal bucket seats. It has no tachometer inside, but it has a hole in the floor for a manual trans. I also believe that this car had A/C from the controller that is there, and that it had power windows, because the trim panels in the rear of the car had no provision for the handle of a manual window crank. Does anybody know the codes from the cowl tag that will let me know what motor this car came with and wether or not it had A/C?? Comments: I just bought a 69 SS 396 from a guy in Michigan. The car is being inspected for PA now. The original motor and tranny have been replaced long ago. The current motor has 11-1 pistons and a M22 Corvette 4 speed circa 1970. Can anyone recommend a shifter to install to get the proper location to use the console? I see a vent line running parrallel to the gas line. Where should this terminate? This car also overheats if stuck in traffic, is there a coolant recovery system that can be installed?
Thanx for your help.

Email: <bsjnpetzer@aol.com>
Location: Richmond, VA,
Comments: I have a chance to buy a real 1969 SS Chevelle convertible (or at least I think it is). I have the original bill of sale from the Chevy dealership where it was sold in Sept. of 1969. It shows the following options: Bucket seats, console, Posit. rear axle, 350 H.P. V8, 4 speed trans, power steering, speed warning ind., P B radio, and SS equipment. Seems to be a pretty basic Chevelle to me. This car is sitting in a garage and has been completely torn down (down to the metal) on the inside. Only the instrument panels, front dash, and front driver seat remains. The backseat, passenger seat, and all door panels have been removed as has all the chrome and emblems. The engine and transmission is in there and the car runs. The guy who is selling it has had it in his garage for the last two years. He doesn't know much about how original it is. He traded a guy another car for this one. When he got it it was like this. He got all the parts to restore the car including bumpers, chrome, etc. He has since purchased new door panels, emblems, seat covers, etc. The car was painted it's original color of butternut yellow prior to him buying it two years ago. It looks as if someone was ready to do some serious restoration on this car when he bought it. The present owner has lost interest in it. I have some questions since I am a novice at best on what to look for (I owned a 1969 SS Chevelle back when I was in high school and have always wanted another for keep sakes).

Question 1. How can I determine that the engine is original? I believe that the VIN is printed on the water pump. What else can I look for to determine that the engine belongs to the body and that the numbers match?

Question 2. How can I best research the previous owners of this vehicle? I called the VA DMV office. They said that they can only go back ten years. Are there other sources? I found the original owner and he sold it in 1979. He could not tell me who exactly he sold it too. So I have 19 years of unknown history.

Question 3. He is asking $ 8,500.00 firm for everything including all the parts he has bought. He is willing to lay all the extra parts out before I buy. Does this sound like a reasonable price if the engine matches up? The original radio is gone but from speaking to the original owner all else has survived. What are the "gotchas" that I should look for, i.e. parts that might be missing that are really important?

Thanks for the help. I told him that I would give him an answer within the next ten days.

I was at a very large Socal swap meet and the original owner saw the car and could not beleave his eyes, after trying for several weeks to buy it he came clean and told me about it, he also had the original paper work on it contract and window sticker even paper lic plate that went in window in Calif, I asked if he would give them to me and he said for a large $$$$ figure so for a much smaller amount he made me copies, the car is in great shape never been resto- and only has 44,000 mi on it, I have been besiege with offers on the car since last year and 2 theft attemps for that reason I have not included my address, I also wanted to add some of the options that the car has or should I say lack of two buckets seats blk no counsel, radio deleat, special perf suspension front and rear, tinted front windshield only, power disc brakes, no other power options on car, front seat shoulder harness, under hood lamp,hd radiator,M-22 trans,63 amp gen,4.10 gears,L-72 427 and the real kicker is the 300 body on it in dover white.

Due to interferance with the secondary pumper & vacuum port in the intake manifold, I had to use a one inch spacer (4 hole type) for clearance. Ignition is a stock GM HEI. At 3000 rpm this thing is a rocket! My problem is when power braking even though there is no miss it's real sluggish esspecialy when I launch at that rpm. When I 'Flash' the converter off idle I still get that sluggish bog (but not as severe) untill it reachs 3000rpm, Then it's "gear-up we're going hyperspace". I've tried rejetting up and down, recurved the distributor, I've gone from 8 to 14 degree's in timing, so far any changes made, makes it worse. I've considered a higher stall torque converter, but the car is for sale and my budget has been pushed to the limit (I'm married-any ???). Would the carb spacer cause this bog? If I can get this thing to launch right then it should be in the mid to low 12's. Can anyone shed some light on my delima? Thanks for taking the time to wade through this mess. Sincerely, Dale Flinn

Comments: Just got this car that is suppose to be a 69 chevelle, but everything on it is a 68 except the grill front bumper and vin#. The 69 chevelle have marker lights on the back fenders, but my car doesn't have them and it looks like the fenders have not been replace and the holes where the lights would go have not been filled in. The doors have vent windows and the number on the doors match the vin#. So I don't think the doors have been replaced, but in 1969 they didn't have vent windows except the 300 Deluxe Post car but my vin# tells me my car is a 300 Deluxe sport coupe. My Dad tells me they may have made an early 69 or late 68 and that is why it has all the 68 stuff on it. Please email if anybody knows if they made such a car or does anybody have any advice on how I should restore this car.

Comments: I am 17 years old and recently purchased a 1969 Chevelle 300 Deluxe pillar coupe. The interior is excellent, with a very nice body, in Azure Turqouise (original paint). It has the original 250 6 cylinder engine. It has black cloth/vinyl interior and split front bench. I was wondering if this 300 deluxe coupe is a rare find or not, I haven't seen any of them on the road.

This new tranny is equipped with a Transbreak. Track techs bumped him up a class until the entire Valve Body is replaced. We're curious if he can't simply remove the solenoid and put a plug in the hole. Removing the solenoid disarms the Transbreak, doesn't it? Is this legal? He really does prefer to stay in with the Heavies! Shall greatly appreciate any information you could send along to him at SHRIG1@AOL.COM. Thanks

Comments: I've had my chevelle for nine years now and it was first car I ever owned (I'm 28 now). It was an origial California car that had never been touched so it just needed a little TLC to put on the road. It HAD a 307 with a PG and 10 bolt. It now has a supercharged 350/350TH, 12 bolt combo that has run 10's @ 120+mph, on 9" slicks and through the mufflers! If anyone wants more info on this setup, please drop me a line. Also, I'm having some trouble with the front disc brakes. There seems to be some residual line pressure and the brakes are always lightly dragging. How can I fix this? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. SEE YA ON THE BLVD!

If a Chevelle does not work, will another Chevy model, or do I look for another model maker in the muscle car era. She needs a paint job, but here's some specs. She's a 1969 with a 350 under the hood and the numbers match. It's got an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Holley 600 cfm four barel, Hurst Quarter stick slap shifter, working tachometer with ignition shut down, 16" Mickey Thompson I series on the back over Weld Racing rims, ladder bars, and the interior is in great shape. She needs a little work, but it ain't nothing I can't handle. Hey looking forward to hearing from all the Chevelle junkies out there! Comments: 1969 SS396, 350 hp. 68,000 original miles, all spent in Pennsylvania. Purchased in March and is now being put into road worthy condition by a few friends and I, hopefully in time for the Big M show in Baltimore.

Some specs: Original motor car, engine rebuilt in 92, most likely pumping out 390hp out of its (now) 402 cubic inches. Edelbrock Torquer II manifold and headers. Holley double pumper. Recently repainted (not by me) to its original burgundy color. 4 speed M22 (originally had an M21) and 4.10 gears. Black interior with buckets, console. AM pushbutton radio (now AM/FM). Idiot lights. Mostly new interior, half put in by me, rest by previous owners. New SS wheels. About 90% restored, but now working on the details. I figure it's about a winter away from being really nice.

The problem i am having is the car starts right up and idles but when you go in gear it sometimes stalls or chugs when you pick up RPMS. It will even stall at times when not moving but start right back up. It has a 1800 series Holley dual feed with fresh rebuild and I've set the floats as required with 1 1/2 turn on the idle screws, new carter fuel pump and all new vacuum hoses and fuel filter. I did notice a exposed wire inside the Accel dual point dist. (30100 series) leading to one of the points. Gonna change to a 34000 series soon. The car will run at a high pm but stall at around 900 rpms. Can anybody give me an idea what this might be in case its not the distributor I sure would appreciate any info on this matter. Thanks RR

miles. Blue, Black bench seet, White Top. TH 400 with 15
options. It was a one owner car until 10/96 and is an amazing
vehicle. The only changes are new tires in 1977, the owner
wanted radials. It came with all of the original paperwork including the Warranty Plate. The code for the rear is "CP"
and I do not know what ratio is. This is a Washington State car
with a closed element air cleaner and no smog pump ever!!! Wierd.

It still has the factory manifold with a Carter four barrel carb. on top. But this will be swaped out with a Edelbrock manifold and a 700cfm holley carb. At the present time it is being painted and will be done in about two months. Then it will be close being finished.

I have no idea what I'm doing. Trying to keep up with by 19 year old who also has a 1969. I want to out do him. I graduated from college in 1969.

I just stripped the interior.
It runs. Pulled rear wheels and found passenger side brakes did not exist. Axial bearings are gone. Its a twelve bolt housing.
CN 0918 B. I pulled it out and the pinion retaining screw is broke off inside. Axial is probably bad.

Just came from U-Pick yard. Found a 1977 Pontiac Grand Lemans.
The rear end is a 7 AA 0 067. Will this fit?

Plan to put a small block 400cc. Any suggestions?

Now it has a 350 4 bolt with 2.02 Fuelies with rollers, 650 DBL pumper, Summit HEI, headers, ect. I just rebuilt the trans with the B&M shift kit and took out the metal plates in the clutches and added more clutches. I also took out the servo spring and used a 9/16" deep socket in its place. The car shifts like a mad man. All I need now a 10 or 12 bolt posi, or a 9" posi with 3.31 gears and disk brakes. Once then go in it's time for the 1/4. I also had another 350 4bolt fall in my lap for FREE so I am gonna stroke this one to a 388c.i. with pop ups and either NOS or a 6-71.

I don't like rusty looking headers therefore decided to have Jet-Hot or simular coating applied my old headers or buy new ones while I have the engine out. Well, Jet-Hot wants $300 for silver and another $20 for the black coating. New headers with the same coating inside and out can be purchased in Jegs for $250, only silver available, really wanted black. Jegs told me the headers in the catalog were made by Dynomax and had 1/8" flanges. The purchase of Hedman or like brand and coating could hit $450. Any experiance with Dynomax headers out there?

Comments: 2 years ago we bought a 69 chevelle ss 396, 325hp, convertible. Did some research and I think the car left the factory back in 1969 as a 307 Malibu in burnish brown, not black and red as is now. Still, we have a beautiful chevelle, and who ever converted it did a very good job. Now the problem, and please understand that i am not a gearhead. at 60 MPH, the engine really 'whines' out ( a lot of engine noise ) and it almost feels and sounds like the engine is at top end. A mechanic looked at the engine and listened to it, and said the problem, and all the noise, is coming from the fan. said I need a fan clutch, but had no idea where i would get one for a car like this. any ideas? does a fan clutch just bolt onto the existing fan, and are all 396 fan clutchs the same? Thanks for your help

Comments: I have a 1969 chevelle malibu, two door recently changed into a hardtop, that is about to be painted. I need to know if there are any good dark greens out there, because the interior of my car is dark green. Can somebody tell me the famous dark green that came on those 72 chevelles. As for under the hood, I have a 454 with around 420 horses and a 700-R4 tranny. I also need a posi rearend and would like to know what gears I shall get also.

Comments: I am 18 years old and I recently bought a 69 "Malibu" as a project car. It has a 350 that and has been converted from an automatic to a 4 speed. Another thing I am thinking has been converted is the bucket seats. The car has a straight body, but when the people before me painted it, they covered all of the holes for the emblems. If anyone has a picture of a bone stock 69 "Malibu" Please send me a picture. I would just like to know what emblems go where. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
