Also, do you know of any appraisers in N.E. FL. who could put a figure on this car in case I get the desire to sell?
Thanks, whoever you are!

Comments: I have a red 1971 malibu sport coupe. Originally with a 350 and a standard tranny. Now it has a 400 with Tuned port injection, and a th350. It has all the fascia, hood, and badges of an ss but I have no idea if it was originally one... Does anybody know what the vin/cowltag codes for one are?? By checking the cowl tag i found out the exterior was burnt orange and the interior was black. If that means anything at all....

Plan to replace original 350 w/a .060 over 427 that has been sitting around my garage for over a year now. Imagine my problems are same as everyone elses, need front fenders (inner/outer) and rear quarters have already been replaced. Luckily the floor pan, trunk and rockers are in exceptional condition. Have an extra set of doors, if anyone is interested.

Comments: I have a 71' El Camino SS with a 454. I am currently trying to replace the heater core and am having problems with the removal of the front plastic casing which houses the core and the vent system components. I have removed the bolts around the edge of the casing and am having problems removing the rivets and the strange clips which seem to be bolted to the firewall. Can anyone throw me a hint on how to remove the clips and the rivets and a possible hint at what I have to remove in order to get to the heater core without removing the entire dash and components. Thanks for your help.

Comments: I have a '71 that we are almost sure is an original SS. I have done a lot of research, but we are still not sure. VIN 136371L135770 only tells me it's a 1971 2-door Malibu or SS with a V8. This thing has been restored from what I believe to be a salvage yard treasure. It has cleaned up frame-off paint job, a bored out (.030 over) 400, with a TH400 behind it. Hurst Quarter-stick shifter, followed by a 12bolt housing 4.10 gears. The sticker on the Cleaner says 425hp, and after hearing that it did 12's in the quarter makes me think it's possible. The interior on this thing is clean except for the Dash area which needs my attention. I am going to probably completely clean this up over the next couple years.

When we got the car home we found the factory build sheet in the owners manual. With other papers we found in the car we found out that we are the third owner. It was sent to a dealer in Port Orchard, Wa & sold to a couple in Bremerton Wa. They kept the car until 6/94 then sold it to a lady in Seattle and she had it until about 10/1/98. We plan on keeping the car as is and just enjoying driving it.

Since weve had it the older 350 2bbl 2 bolt was put aside for a stock 350 4bbl with a 2200 stall and the gears went to 3.73 with an Auburn pro posi. Hopefully soon we will get a 383 built we collecting all the parts for it slowly. It has very little rust so theres not much to do before it can be repainted the origanl gold but with SS stripes this time.

Comments: Have a 71 Elky. Pulled the bench seat out to replace carpet and
found that the lower rear cab panel is rusted out. The plastic
storage box cut-out is rusted. I pulled the front cargo bed cover
plate off and found the rear pan rusted out. Has anyone located a source for reproduction rear lower cab panels? I have ordered
a couple of parts books that stock front and rear seat pans but
no rear cab panels. Is a rear seat pan from a 70-72 chevelle the same as an El Camino rear pan? My EC pan has threads for rear seat belt support bolts?
Has anyone made this repair that would like to share some pointers?.
Thanks for any feedback,
Joe

Comments: In 1981 I bought what I thought was an authentic 1971 SS, I was a 21 year old who thought he knew everything. Well guess what he did'nt. It's a fake! The only way I can tell that it's not is the dash, it does'nt have a 3 round guage instrument panel. It has buckets, Hurst compition floor shifter with a factory cutout. Painted black w/ white stripes, two tone interior to match. Engine is a 402 w/11.5 compression. Borg warner Super T-10 X Trans w/ 40lb. Hayes flywheel. The rear is a Spicer 12 bolt 4:56 with a Moroso Brute Strength posi carrier, also machined, heavy duty end caps, C clip eliminators and super heavy duty axles. (I did the trans in 1982 and took out a blown M-22, the rear in 1993 and changed from 3:55 to present) This car can get out of it's own way! My problem is what do I with this car! Put in a dash from a real SS or leave it alone and pass it off as a fake! Back when I bought the car I did'nt know anybody who knew anything about it. Now today it is a big thing! What to do???? This car looks like it belongs in a show. Absolutely mint! If I put it in a show what would happen???

Im not a big fan of the vinyle top, and this one had just had one put on 3 months previous to my owning it. So of course it had to go! Well im in the process of restoring it right now. The color in which I hope to paint it is a Emerald Green, with a turquoise twist in it. On top of that I will lay either Gold or Silver racing stripes!

I recently installed 2 1/4" dual exhaust with 3 chamber Flowmaster mufflers. I would like to install an HEI distributor next but am not sure what to do about the wiring. I think the recent wire that goes to the coil is a resistor type wire (take the place of the firewall resistor). With the ignition switch being in the steering column I am not sure where to run the hot wire for the distributor from. If anyone has successfully made this conversion, please let me know. I am also a member of the Golden State Nova's and have a 66 Nova that I am restoring.

Am now dedicated to spending a rediculous amount of time and an obscene amount of money on my new baby. Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome. Wish me luck!!!

Comments: 1971 Chevelle Malibu 350 automatic, 2 Dr HT, beige exterior with Dark Brown vinyl roof, sandalwood interior with a brown dash, also has the factory tinted glass all around.

The car has never been modified, seems like it sat in a garage for many years it has no play in the steering and doors don't have any sag in the hinges. One side of the trunk is rusty as well as lower qtr panel but it can be saved.

Since getting the car last weekend I began removing the vinyl top to replace it. That's alot of work to strip off the old! Luckily mine was very shredded to start with. Plans include cosmetics first to use as a driver, interior only needs front seat re-upholstery, then a quality paint job (Brown-the only decent color to match the original interior and brown top).

I'm in the process of replacing the cam, intake, rear-end. I was wondering how hard it would be to put a Pioneer head unit inside the car. So that I can have just as much stereo sound in the car as there is outside the car.

Can someone help me
Thanks :-)

Are all of the chevelles gas pedals so easy to press down? I currently have a blazer and it requires some pressure to press down. Also are all the chevelles steering wheels so easy to turn? Any info would be greatly appreciated, as this is a major point in my buying one.

It now has a 350/th350 ,black interior and is in primer(tinted teal? green). As I have worked on it I have come to think that originally it was a Malibu 400. Does anyone have any information on, or own, one of these cars. If you do, I'd like to hear what you know about Malibu 400's.

Comments: Greetings fellow gearheads! I am a 20-yearold chevelle freak from texas! I currently own 2 71's. (one driver, one parts) Even though they are not SS's, I still love my rides. I have built a clean, reliable (bone stock motor) cruiser that turns lots of heads. With lowered springs and dropped spindles, I'm pretty sure I have the world's lowest (non-assisted) Chevelle. I will send pics when I get a scanner. I would also like to hear from other Dallas area Chevelle owners. My 71' has 15*8 Eagle alloys with 50 series Falkens( 195's front, 225's out back), Autolite gauges, Grant steering wheel, late model Camaro buckets, Super Sun Pro III tach, Alpine system, custom one-off race -style mesh grill, and lots of chrome. I'm still working on the body, so paint has had to wait for now. Future plans include a 1 3/4" chop top, 2" body section/3" drop, full time air ride, Budnik billets (18*9.5's front, 20*13.5's rear/ BF goodrich tires), and a supercharged injected big-block. I'll send my pics whenever possible.

The harmonic balancer fell off from a stripped bolt that he created but after a small rebuild the 350 4 bolt was hitting the pavement. Under the hood contains a 350 small block bored .30 over. A Eldelbrock carb and intake kick in the fuel. The valves are driven by a Fireball cam which helps a great deal. The car is my wifes baby but every once in a while I drive it.

Comments: We have a 1971 Chevelle Malibu SS. Casey got it from his grandmother about two years ago. Our STOCK car has about 60 000 miles on it but the paint and chrome are rusting and coming off. We want to restore it as well as improve it. We thought of painting it its original orange/pumpkin color but other retro colors of the 70's have also been tossed around. If we ever decided to sell it, would a non-traditional Chevy color reduce the price of the car?

Comments: I purchased my Chevelle a few years ago from the family of the
original owners. The car is "avacado" green with a green interior. The engine is the 200 horse 307 cubic incher with a
350 turbo. Fortunately the car was garaged for most of it's
life (That's important, we are the home of the Olympic Rainforest, this area got over 100 inches of rain last year!). The car is in good overall condition. It had 62,000 miles on it when I bought it. I got much of the original paperwork with it. So far I've added dual exhausts and Mickey Thompson Redlines mounted on 15x6 Ralley front wheels and 15x8 Ralleys on the rear. I have an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and a Quadrajet that will soon replace the cast iron intake and 2 barrel carb. It's a fun car, I enjoy tinkering with it and driving it. Chevys in general and Chevelles in particular have always been my favorites.

2. What was the intake and exhaust valve size on the cylinder heads?
3. What were the specs on the stock camshaft?
4. What was the original exhaust pipe size?
5. Was the stock intake manifold single or dual plane?
6. What was the rear end gear ratio?
