Yup, I concur.
![]() Short for D55, the code for the console. The trim shop would need to know the car was going to be a floor shift so they could install the correct parts.

Probably a job number. Trim shop didn't have a lot of the info that was on the build sheet, they only needed to know how to relate the parts to the job, hence the job number.

I've never seen these early trim-shop tags before. What I find interesting is the serrated edge on the tag, and the hand-written script. Like it comes out of a printer, and is torn off.
I remember the time slips at the drag strip that we picked up on the return road looked just like these. They were written on some type of device that electronically transmitted the handwritten script from the tower to the shack 1/4 mile away. It appears that this was the same thing in the trim shop. Someone in the 'office' wrote the instruction as to what to 'build', and it was transmitted to the trim-shop floor. The tag then went with the part to the 'job' number indicated on the final assy line. I guess........ |

I'd agree with the above its a truncated option code, I found the same handwritten tag in my '72 rear seat and as I recall and on an option or two they didn't write the entire option code for. Console makes sense since the M40 is the trans code.

I had actually found two, this one and another that was similar, but on the rear seat.
