COMP.IS 9 TO 1. PETE JACKSON NOISY GEAR DRIVE. INTAKE IS EDELBROCK RPM PERFORMER WITH A 625 CARTER. THAT'S RIGHT GUYS,- CARTER. WORKS FINE. HEI FIRED. TRANNY IS REBUILT 350 WITH A SHIFT KIT AND B&M 1900 STALL CONVERTER. TRANNY ALSO HAS COOLER WHICH IS A REQUIREMENT WHEN USING A HIGHER STALL SPEED CONVERTER. EXHAUST IS STOCK CAST WHICH RUNS INTO 21/4 INCH PIPES WITH 13INCH NASTY FLOWMASTERS. I KEPT THE STOCK CAST EXHAUST AS IN MY OPINION IT PROFIDES MORE TORQUE AT LOWER SPEEDS. REAR GEARS ARE 4.10'S. REAR TIRES ARE 275-60-15 ON 8 INCH CRAGER SS RIMS. THIS COMBO MAKES FOR A VERY STRONG STREET CHEVELLE WITH A GREAT SOUND, AND VERY,VERY RELIABLE. JUST A SHORT NOTE THAT LUNATI HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP WITH QUESTIONS.

Of Course, that wasn't fast enough...Now it has a 383. TOP END:AFR Heads (2.08/1.60), Victor Jr. intake, Holly 800cfm, HEI (it has been rebuilt again) with MSD box. Lunati Roller Cam, 1.6 rockers, Rhodes Lifters.

Combination: I've had my car since 87 when i was 15. It has gone through many transfermations. But this is my last one. I recently tubbed it, 33/19.5 micks on 15x14 centerlines under her skin. The rear-end is a 12bolt w/4.88 richmonds and auburn possi! There's not to many runs on it, in fact just two hard passes. One was not my choice(12.08) 1/8th but the second one was better(9.13). I had some people madd at me because it didn't burn the tires or didn't run faster. The car Hooks like a dream, and just for two passes on the car and myself(never had anything that fast before). Just give me somemore seat time and my car some tuning and were in business. I'll tell you more, as i get more done. Thank-you for your time!!

I got my tranny for $275 with a shift kit and 2000 stall torque converter. my car unfortunately, has crappy suspension, drum brakes all the way around, and a stock 10 bolt rear(3.57's) . my guess is that for such a cheap build up mid 13's is pretty damn good running on 16x8 centerlines wrapped in goodyear radial ta's! By the way i got my centerlines 15x7 front/16x8 rear in brand new condition with new goodyears on there! The classified's (L.A. Recycler) really works for parts! All i have to say is I've never been beaten by a ford or a rice burner!

Joseph Miller has a well built 1965 Malibu SS!
- 1965 Malibu SS
- Engine: 383
- Transmission: Turbo400
Combination:
I built my combination to be brutally fast but tame enough to drive anywhere. I call this my Jeckyll & Hyde engine;Idles almost as smooth as stock but explodes to life with nearly 600 lbs.ft of torque!Basic ingredients are as follows:383 c.i.d. short block-stock crank and rods,TRW blower pistons {about 8.9:1 compession in my engine},Brodix entry level cylinder heads {bolted on straight out of the box},Lunati mech. roller cam ground to my specs {226/234 duration @ .050" ,.540" lift},Victor Jr. intake manifold, rebuilt and modified Holley 650 mech. secondary carb.,and, most importantly, an ATI Procharger supercharger {makes all the difference in the world!}Also I'm running 1 3/4" headers into 2 1/2" exhaust {could stand to use 3" but a friend built the system cheap!} with Dynomax ultra flow mufflers {these mufflers are really quiet and if not for all the blower noise this car would be a real sleeper-get comments on how quiet it is all the time!} Ignition is a HEI with MSD 6A. Turbo 400 trans with manual valve body and 12 bolt posi rear with 3.50:1 gears finish the drivetrain off. I've yet to optimize the combination but I baselined the performance at a local eighth mile track and backpedaled to a 7.25 e.t.at 98 m.p.h. on unhooked up drag radials {e.t. equivalent to about an 11.20 @ 120 in the 1/4 mile} Once I get some more traction and more engine tuning I feel the car should be good for maybe 10.70s or better. This is a total real street car. I often take the car on road trips of a couple hundred miles or more and get around 15 m.p.g.{which isn't all that bad for a carbuerated engine at almost 600 hp.}Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to involve myself in this website!Keep up the good work!

I am currently running a 355 with 5.7 pink rods and keith Black 12:1 pistons. The heart it a little lunati solid cam. .501/.508 lift and 240/249 duration at .050. Stock heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, a victor jr. intake that is an inch taller and i also run an inch spacer. The carb is a holly 750 with the choke horn cut off. This motor loves to run on vp racing fuels 108 octane gas. The trans is a turbo 400 with a converter that stalls at 3200 RPM. The rearend is a 12 bolt posi with 4:88 gears and 28/9/15 MT slicks. With this combination i ran a 13:17 at over 5000 foot elevation. I am currently replacing the stock heads with a set of air flow research 210 heads and a crane roller cam. hope this will make a difference. i will keep you informed. The key to making these chevelles go fast is getting the weight moving backwards and keep it on the back bumper. The biggest help was when i put in a full roll cage. Im currenty running 70/30 shocks and i moved the battery to the trunk. If you are having problem getting your chevelle to hook up, e-mail me, i might be able to help. Ive actually been able to get the front wheels off the ground with this heavy car. i wish everyone could feel that experience. its a great rush.Chris fills us in on his cool 1978 Malibu!

I have a 400 (.030) 2 bolt block from a 72 caprice with 327 fulie heads fully ported and gasket matched w/2.02 and 1.54 valves. i did this because someone had missed a shift and busted a valve and this is the only way to fix it right, and i also pick them up cheap. the bottom end has a stock crank and rods, trw for slugs w/4 valve reliefs the entire assembly has been balanced by the machine shop and blue printed by my dad. the intake is a offenhouser dual quad with bridgeport milled plates to adapt 2 TBI units from v-8 camaro's, it is a short runner open plenuem intake. the 1050 cfm of air is managed from a 93 computer, so the cam that was chosen was the hottest cam ava. for the 350 from comp cams, that would work w/ the computer the 1.5 roller tip rocker ratio can be bumped up to 1.6 because of the cid. at 10.73:1 compression on pump gas(104 octane boost when i lean on it for safety) i drive this car to school everyday and get 22-25 mpg city and highway!! the rear gear is a 3.73 posi w/ the stock 10-bolt 255/60/15 in back and 205/60/15 up front and a 700r4 w/2800 stall lockup converter. the Mr. Gasket engine dyno for computer says that it makes right at 400 hp even and over 500 fts lbs of torque just off idle to 6000 and i have heard that these estimates are way under? the car has the sway bar off, and with full interior it weighs about 3250 and breifly pulled the front wheels off on the street, with a hell of a lot of tuning left, we are hoping 12's at 105-110 with aluminuim heads and a roller cam the crank should be easily maxed out with over 460 hp on tap and torque? try 550-600 ft lbs on the motor!!!!!! time for tubs drag radials and hold on!! not bad for a daily driver(4000 miles in the 3 mo i had it out)David Woodby tells us about his quick 1965 Super Sport!

This engine combination has been a bit on the costly side but the results are priceless. With the current rear-end set up, I have run a best of 13.10 @ 115 mph. Of course, traction has been my biggest challenge and, two tires later, I am close to mastering the good ol' 'pedal' challenge out of the hole. With the exterior and interior of the car near 90%, my next improvement will be swapping out the 10 bolt in exchange for a 3.73 12 bolt posi. That change alone will do wonders for the overall performance of this car! After that is done, I will tackle weather stripping chores and replace the carpet and some other small items. Long Live Brute Force Chevelles!

- 1972
- Engine: 350
- Transmission: TH-700R4
Combination:
I purchased the car 5 years ago with 56,000 miles for $600. While working for a GMC dealer I picked up a 89 GMC truck engine that was warranty for loosing coolant and knocking, for free. All it needed was head gaskets ,oil pump, and changed to 1218 oil filter. The 700R4 was replaced in a 86 TransAm,test driven and parked at the same dealer for about a month. Then the car was to be repoed, so they pulled the trans back out and sold it to me for $600. I purchased a Edelbrock performer to hold my quadrajet off a 76 Vette. Installed some used headers with 2 1/2 exhaust acrossover and flowmasters. Out back is a 12 bolt with an Auburn carrier and Richmond 3.73 gears. I have a used set of 28/10.5/15 Mickey Thompsons. The car is not real fast but for the motor being stock inside, it has run a 14.67 in the 1/4 in july at Atlanta dragway. The does great on gas and still has ice cold air conditioning.

I do have a 12 bolt posi with 3.55"s (with a center section out of a truck, many say it can't be done but I have been down the strip many times with it. I am a machinist therfore, I was able to make up some great shims and the thing went in nice with .005" back lash and a beautiful gear mesh ).I have 26.0x9.0x15.0 hooiser drag slicks. My 65 has run a best of 14.00 at 97.0 mph at Bremerton raceway in Washington State .Next year I plan to get a 2800 stall 280/480 cam and headers. I figure I'll run at least mid 13's

This is a combination that I put together to have a daily driver and bracket race on the weekends. It evolved over time in various ways from this original combination as I love to experiment. The car was a 1970 Malibu 4-door the car ran a best of 13.84@99 weighing in a 3610lbs with driver with the specifications listed above. If you like what you see or have any questions I will be more than happy to share all, as well as the success and failures of the various experiments. The car is shifted at 5800rpm , I have changed everything from carbs to fuel system, ignition system, carb spacers, converters, transmissions, rear end gears and tires with and without nitrous. I had over 2000 dragstrip passes and probably around 500 on the street over a five year period. This is the basic combination, the car could run low 13 second range on the motor and well into the 12 second range with nitrous using all the succesfull modifications that I did over the years.
